When I first arrived in US soil, I was driving around with my International license which was good for a year. Within the one year period, I have to get a US driving license. Driving to me was not a problem then as I was in my 16 years of driving experience in my country. The problems that I faced in US were as follows :
- Driving on the right/correct side of the road
- Applying for a day to do the road test
- The time spent working towards passing the road test and what if?
- Trying to apply a driving permit for my wife, LPheng was difficult as she came in the US with a different visa.
GOD has it all planned out for me. HE has arranged an angel named Michael Smith to meet at the airport and we became friends in the shortest time. When he heard that I have had intention in applying for a US driving license, he was all ready to teach to drive in the right lane of the road and at the same time, taught me everything that I need to know about getting it right the first time. He also took a day off to accompany me to do the road test.
Time flies and soon I was ready for the BIG day. Not that I am afraid of going for the road test but “what if?” came into my mind. I would have thrown away my opportunity to get it right, wasting my time, my money and most of all, to reapply for another day off to do it all over again.
I was up at 4am that day and I prayed to GOD for HIS help for both my wife and I. I seeked GOD as it was HE who brought to this country of milk and honey. That morning, I felt the holy spirit. HE drew me to 2 Chronicles 20:15 it reads …. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the vast army. For the battle is not yours but GOD’s. My confidence was strengthened. I told LPheng about it that morning GOD was going to deliver us. AMEN.
The road test went well with Michael seated at the back seat of the car. I was driving next to Mr. Nice, the tester. From my driving experience, I could tell that he was pleased with it. When I was done with road test, Mr. Nice was checking on the papers work when he went on to say, “Mr. Chin, are you ready for the “Hand Signals Test”?. “Hand Signals Test”?, I had no idea that I was scheduled for any of it. I was willing to give myself a shot at it.
Mr. Nice asked me a few questions and my hands were “signalling” in different directions. I was lost and nervous as I was not prepared or even ready for any “hand signals test”. With the results ready, Mr. Nice came to me. He said, “Mr. Chin, you did well with the road test but you failed badly with the ““Hand Signals Test”. I froze for a moment with a “here we go again, now what?”written on my face. He continued, “You know what? Today is my last day at work, I am retiring and for that, I am going to give you a pass”. At this point. realized GOD has HIS humor. AMEN. I was most appreciated for what GOD has done.
One the other end, LPheng failed once again in trying to apply for a driving permit. The reason that was given was that she was an “Alien”, all for entering US with a different Visa status. Naturally, she was disappointed.
When we were got home, the sun was right above our heads. She was trying to call the RMVs for other alternatives while I was wondering “if I have had heard it right that GOD was going to deliver us from the tests”. It was closed to 1pm when she finally got to right person. Praise GOD! It was a painful experience after numerous calls that went from one to another, with many transfers of lines from here and there.
This “angel” advised her to get to point A to settle the “visa” issue first before she could sit for the “Learned Permit Test”. We took his advice and rushed the family to Commuter Rail Station. We got the next train to Boston. By the time, we got to Point A, it was already 230pm. Praise GOD that the process went like a breeze as there were not many applicants on that day.
With a confirmation letter of the Visa status in hand, we rushed to the RMV in Chinatown, Boston for her “Learned Permit Test” application. We were there at 3.30pm and there was a long queue of applicants. LPheng got into the line and GOD has HIS hands on it again. This time, a RMV staff opened an additional counter to serve the applicants. She called to LPheng to start off the process.
By the time her application process completed, it was past 4pm. she was ready for her “Learned Permit Test”. She waited until her name was called at 4.30pm. She did passed her “Learned Permit Test” and we were out of the RMV by 4,45pm. GOD has kept HIS promised for us. Without HIS help, we would have ended going round and round in circles with no results at all. Our GOD is an awesome GOD. HE hears and HE answers. HE is the same yesterday, today and forever and ever.
This might not be a major prayer request to many but I just want to make known that GOD cares for your heart and NOT how BIG/small your prayer request is. Our GOD ALMIGHTY answers all prayer requests both BIG/small. Our GOD is for all who asks, seeks and finds.
